A few years ago, my husband and I stumbled upon a fantastic deal for Sandals South Coast (SSC) in Whitehouse, Jamaica from our travel agent, and we impulsively booked it. Little did we know, it would become our all-time favorite Sandals resort for a romantic escape (stay tuned to see if Sandals Royal Curacao takes the crown in May!).

This idyllic location boasts two miles of pristine white sand beach, bordering a lush nature preserve. While the scenic 1.5-hour drive from the airport might seem long at first, the seclusion and breathtaking surroundings quickly make you realize it’s absolutely worth it.
The Perfect Balance: Spacious Yet Intimate
Spread luxuriously across 50 acres, Sandals South Coast offers ample space for couples to spread out and enjoy privacy. During our stay, we initially worried our room location in the Long Beach buildings might be too far from the main areas. However, the peaceful walk along the beautiful gardens became a highlight of our trip. Plus, the Long Beach buildings boasted a fantastic pool, perfect for my husband’s daily dose of poolside games and volleyball. With over 20 different room categories at this resort you’re sure to find the perfect room for you. Choose from your standard luxury level room, a club level swim up, a beautiful stunning Rondoval, or the fan favorite over water bungalow, and many more!
A Beachfront Paradise
The white-sand beach at Sandals South Coast is a dream come true for beach bums like me. We spent countless hours taking long walks along the shoreline, soaking up the sun, and simply relaxing with refreshing cocktails in hand.
Insider Tip: The calm waters are perfect for swimming, but the beach is located on a protected reserve, so there may be some seaweed present and many find the ocean floor to be a little soft (mushy). Don’t let that deter you! Just bring a pair of water shoes if you think it may bother you, or you can upgrade to an over-the-water bungalow for direct ocean access.
Unforgettable Culinary Experiences Await
9 Delicious Restaurants for Your Taste Buds
Sandals South Coast boasts an impressive selection of 9 restaurants, offering a diverse range of cuisines to tantalize your taste buds. From Pan-Asian delicacies at Jasmine’s (the shrimp kisses and Me Goreng Noodles were divine!) to fresh seafood and delicious jerk cuisine, there’s something to satisfy every craving. Two food trucks are also on the horizon, further expanding the culinary options.
Insider Tips for Foodies
Tip 1: Review restaurant menus and dress codes before your trip. Tip 2: Make reservations as soon as you arrive for those that require a reservation or let you butler team know ahead of time. Tip 3: Don’t hesitate to ask your travel advisor for personalized recommendations!
Don’t forget your drinks. At SSC you’ll find 7 bars including an over water bar with hammocks to lounge in and swim up bar’s at the pool. Remember with Sandals – all tips and gratuities are included in the price of your trip so you don’t have to carry around soggy one dollar bills. *Keep in mind these tips/gratuities do not include your butler team if staying in a butler level room*.
Endless Activities and Entertainment to Keep You Captivated
Fun by the Pool and Beyond
During your stay, you can choose to unwind by the pool located near your room, or venture to the main pool for a lively atmosphere and activities with the entertainment team. Don’t miss the chance to learn a new dance move or participate in the fun-filled games! My husband particularly enjoyed the poolside games at the Long Beach pool. You could find him here every day going from the swim up bar, to pool volleyball, to pool trivia. He even managed to lose his wedding ring in the pool during an intense game while I snuck away for a nap. No worries, I came back and found it right away after he had been pacing the pool for a 15 minutes. Hah! I particularly loved our day atmosphere at the main pool where I could swim up for a drink, lounge by the pool with my book, take a few steps to grab a pizza, and then learn to dance salsa with the Play Makers! If you’re heading to the main pool at any resort, get their early to grab a lounge chair.
If you’re having a beach day – head to the water sports hut and take out a paddleboard, hobbie cat, or see when the snorkeling boat is heading out then spend the day unwinding on the beach or paddling the beautiful blue waters.
Nighttime Entertainment Awaits
The evenings at Sandals South Coast come alive with vibrant entertainment options. Enjoy captivating shows and games at the Amphitheater, cheer on the newlywed couples during their playful challenges, get on stage in you’re brave enough, or immerse yourself in the energy of the resort’s legendary Carnival Party. We especially loved watching the Carnival Party – the energy was contagious!
Exploring Local Culture
Sandals South Coast provides a perfect base to explore the rich culture and history of Jamaica. Consider embarking on an excursion with Island Routes. You can book ahead of time or on resort. On our trip to Jamacia we did the Appleton Estate Rum Tour, offering a fascinating glimpse into rum production, delicious Jamaican cuisine, and rum tastings. This tour was a particular favorite for my rum-loving husband!
